Hastings Boy’s High School Trade Training

ONE Foundation is proud to support eligible community organisations and weekend heroes who make a difference in their communities. Supporting Hastings Boys’ High School’s initiative to secure the engineering industry for future generations is just one example of helping the communities we live in.

Commitment to Hastings Boys’ High School

Hastings Boys’ High School is the only secondary school in the Hawke’s Bay area with an engineering programme, boasting a fantastic engineering department with an emphasis on welding and fabrication facilities. However, with a lack of young people showing interest in an engineering career and a shortage of resources at the high school, like-minded organisations, including ONE Foundation, have come together to support Hastings Boys’ High School to tackle this issue head on. We believe engineering is at the heart of all major transformations so as a sponsor of this important initiative we have funded a range of specialist welding equipment. This includes six new welding machines (the school currently has one), 12 helmets, six gas packs and four flow metres, as well as powering the upgrade at the school by funding some of the electrical work. This funding, obtained from responsible gaming in the Hawke’s Bay area, has been used to make a noticeable difference to current and future students attending Hastings Boys’ High School, as well as the future of the engineering industry, by exposing young men to the trades. By providing the school with the tools students need to learn and excel in the trade, ONE Foundation is proud to support this initiative and help the school achieve their long-term goals.

About ONE Foundation

ONE Foundation (formerly First Sovereign Trust Limited) was established in 2004 to distribute grant funding from the proceeds of licensed gaming machines. Our machines are operated under our Class 4 gambling licence, as authorised under the Gaming Act 2003. We are based in Rotorua and operate gaming machines in liquor licensed venues across New Zealand. Eligible organisations and community groups can apply to ONE Foundation for funding to support their objectives. We distribute grants across the following sectors; education, sports, arts, community & culture and health & welfare. In accordance with the Gambling Act 2003, ONE Foundation receives applications for grants on a continuous basis. These are presented to the Net Proceeds Committee at the monthly meeting closest to the date at which the complete, signed original grant request has been received at our office. The Net Proceeds Committee is responsible for assessing applications for the funds that are raised from our gaming machine venues. Our criteria, methods, systems and policies used to consider the distribution of net proceeds are reviewed regularly. The Directors met on the 18th of July 2018 and the latest amendments to the Net Proceeds Policy have been updated on our website. Applications must be completed in accordance with the standard ONE Foundation online application form via our online Grants Portal. From this Portal you can check your eligibility and read our Grant Guidelines and What We Fund for assistance when applying for a grant. Committed to working at the forefront of harm minimisation, ONE Foundation takes a hands-on approach to identifying and managing harmful behaviour within gaming venues. Guided under its culture of care, ONE Foundation works pro-actively with venues and local counselling services, building relationships between the two and equipping its gaming venues with technology and systems to help identify gamers showing signs of harm.
